A Pretty Crackhead

Dating is… fun.

It’s one of my favorite things to talk about in coaching. Everything else about you shows up in it.

It’s also so core to being human. To love, and to be loved.

When I started dating millennia’s ago, I was nervous for every date.

Sitting there running the tape on how I’d botch it. Which story made me look best. Which one would impress her.

I had a resume and I was pitching it.

I did it for years. Planned the whole future before dessert. The house, the kids, the dog we’d argue about.

All that before I found out she was a crackhead.

A pretty crackhead, to be fair…

Why was I nervous about what she thought of me, when I wasn’t impressed with her in the first place?

Why was I working to make her laugh instead of saying what I thought was funny?

Why was I handing over the whole resume to someone who hadn’t asked for it?

Stick to your own humor. Whether she laughs is a pretty good filter.

If she doesn’t ask about your life, she doesn’t care. Don’t tell her.

A date is your chance to invite someone into your world and see if they belong there.

You’re not there to prove you’re right for them. You’re there to find out if they’re right for you.

Your crackhead date is doing it too.

She’s across the table running her own assessment, deciding if you’re worth a second date.

It’s worth knowing your worth.
